The Hoapili Trail winds through areas of lush green vegetation before heading off into barren lava fields. This unique vertical panorama captures the green mountains above this coastal trail... with the terrain descending down until it meets the emerald waters of La Perouse Bay. Available in a special 12x24 size as either a stretched canvas or glossy print on metal.
The Ae'o (Hawaiian Stilt) can be a difficult bird to photograph. This is one subject where the use of a drone is no help at all! This shot was taken with a Canon 500mm f/4 lens. It's skittish nature and the fact that it is usually wading in, difficult to reach, marsh areas... makes a sharp, clean photo a challenge. Also, I've found the lighting angle has to be "just right" to show off this bird's red eye. This is one of my favorite image of the unique bird.
I've hiked and photographed waterfalls all over Hawaii... and in my humble opinion... this waterfall on the Hanawi River, on Maui, is the most beautiful.
