This panorama was actually captured the "old fashioned way"... with a DSLR on a tripod. I lived on the Island of Lana'i, for 25 years, and this is one of my favorite scenes on the island. From this vantage point, you can see Manalei Gulch on the left, Koloiki Ridge in the middle, and Naio Gulch on the right.
The view from Maunalei Gulch... out to the Kalohi Channel and the Island of Moloka'i... has to been seen in person to be fully appreciated. This, however, is one of my favorite panoramas of this amazing scene. I was fortunate enough to catch a day with beautiful, speckled, lighting throughout the gulch. If you look closely, you can see the service road that snakes through the bottom of the gulch. In the winter months, you can actually see Humpback Whales breeching in the channel from this vantage point. This print is available in a unique 12 x 24 size... in either canvas or metal format.
I took this photo, of a Humpback Whale, when I first moved to Hawaii. This was a long time before drones and smart phones. I was able to take many whale shots after this one... but this one still remains my favorite. There was actually a young calf, near the mother, trying to mimic this same posture (rolling over on the back with the flippers up in the air)... but I was never able to catch them, both, doing this at the same time. It was an incredibly rough day and our small boat was getting tossed about quite a bit. Shots, like this one, never seem to come easy. Many people have asked me if this image is "Photoshopped"... and the answer is "yes". I actually added the rainbow after taking the initial shot. I happen to be looking at a rainbow shot and this whale shot on my computer monitor one evening, and it just hit me that they "belonged" together. I would have to classify this image as "photography art"... creating an image out of individual components.
