The Hoapili Trail encompasses some striking scenery near La Perouse Bay on the South Shore of Maui. This is the site of Maui's youngest lava flow... often given as the year 1790... but this is debated. There are incredible contrast of color and landscape here as the relatively young lava flow clashes with emerald waters and green vegetation. This turned into a long, hot hike while backpacking my drone equipment, but the images are worth it. This remote beach rests at the tip of one of Maui's youngest lava flows... which some believe occurred around 1790. The contrast of colors is beautiful here... but the hot and dry conditions make for a challenging hike.
