Milky Way and Keomoku Church - Island of Lana'i, Hawaii
There is no electricity at this remote location of the old Keomoku Village site on the north shore of the island of Lana'i in Hawaii. I had to use strobes to light both the inside and outside of this old building... while I did a time exposure to capture the Milky Way in the night sky. The only access to this village site was a dirt road winding along the dark shoreline. Actually quite comforting to drive for miles and not see one artifiical light along the road. A short walk, from this site, and you can see the flickering lights of the old whaling port of Lahaiana on the island of Maui just across the channel separating the islands. An amazing example of God's beautiful creation that is rarely seen by tourist. As I stood there, in the dark and silence, at 1:00 am in the morning... I wondered what it was like long ago to see buildings, like this, lit by lanterns... with horses tied up out front... with the same beautiful sky overhead. A very special experience I'll never forget.
